'HazMat Situation' In Windsor Locks, People Warned To Avoid Area

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Officials are warning people to avoid an area of Windsor Locks due to a hazardous materials situation at FedEx Wednesday morning, according to the local police and fire departments.
A chemical spill was reported at a tractor-trailer loading dock on Old County Circle around 7 a.m., and people are still being urged to avoid the area of Old County Road near Old County Circle, according to officials.
No injuries have been reported, and the spill is "isolated to FedEx property with no danger to the general public," the Windsor Locks Police Department said. However, traffic has been closed to non-essential traffic on Old County Circle.

"This type of incident is extremely time-consuming and a draw on staffing levels," police said. "Mutual aid has been activated. You may see police cruisers from different jurisdictions operating in Windsor Locks temporarily."
The entryway was cleared of emergency responders by 10:30 a.m. Firefighters remain at the scene "to mitigate adverse conditions caused by the spill along with cleanup operations," police said.
