Homeowner Finds Burglar in House, Fires Gunshot: Windsor Locks Police

The suspect fled the scene and police are investigating.

Windsor Locks police are investigating a recent burglary-in-progress in which the homeowner fired a shot at the suspect with his handgun.

Police were called at about 10 p.m. on June 19 that an active burglary with shots fired had just occurred at 4 Acorn Drive.

The single-family home was unoccupied at the time when it was forcibly entered by a burglar who gained access to the interior of the home via a garage window, Det. Sgt. Paul Cherniack said in a press release.

The homeowner was alerted and immediately responded to his home where he found the suspect was still present.

A confrontation occurred resulting in the homeowner firing one shot from his handgun.

Cherniack said it is unknown if the suspect was struck or injured. The suspect ran toward Kate Way until he was out of sight.

Investigation revealed that a white colored Chevy sedan type vehicle was seen leaving the Kate Way area at a high rate of speed. No license plate seen.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian or Asian male, 30 years old, square-like face, about 5-feet, 6-inches tall, wearing a tan baseball cap and tan jacket, with dark pants. His medical condition is unknown.
