Ice Cream Social at Scantic Museum

Family fun at East Windsor Windsor Historical Society's annual ice cream social.

The East Windsor Historical Society will hold its annual open house and ice cream social at its Scantic Academy Museum, 115 Scantic Rd., August 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will feature free music, ice cream, children’s activities, and museum tours.
Society President Michael Hunt said the program is part of the current membership drive and is designed to make people more aware of the society and its museums, which house hundreds of items representing all periods of East Windsor history. The buildings, which are open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, include the 1817 academy, a recently restored 18th century home, a barber shop and a probate court moved from elsewhere in town, and a scaled down tobacco shed holding agricultural and other large equipment.
A special feature this year is a tin-smithing demonstration by Lance A. Kozikowski, an expert in 18th century metal work. A former social studies teacher, he has since combined his interests in teaching and early technology, supervising the forge at Old Sturbridge Village, running his own Ripley Forge and Metalworks in Coventry, and more recently serving as a museum assistant at Old New Gate.
The program, sponsored by Southern Auto Sales, will also feature the North Street Barbershop Quartet, trivia games for children, and hayrides. The event may be postponed in case of severe weather. For more information, call 860-265-3425.
