Layoffs Announced At Hotel In Windsor Locks Due To Coronavirus
A Hilton hotel is laying off more than 50 employees due to the continued financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, officials said.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — More than 50 employees at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at Bradley International Airport will be laid off next month due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, company officials recently announced. The layoffs at the hotel, located at 16 Ella T. Grasso Turnpike in Windsor Locks, will take place June 22.
The company announced the layoffs in a letter to Connecticut Department of Labor and Windsor Locks First Selectman J. Christopher Kervick. Officials wrote that other employees who were previously temporarily laid off have been told that their layoffs will “now exceed six months due to the likely continuation of the unanticipated, dramatic, and continuing downturn in the economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the hospitality industry.”
Officials said the layoffs are expected to include both permanent and temporary layoffs and will affect 70 employees.

“We do not know what the future will hold at this juncture and are providing the following information to ensure you are fully informed,” according to the letter. “Should any notice be required, it has been given as soon as possible given the unforeseen circumstances of a loss in business due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the National Emergency declared by the President of the United States and the State of Emergency declared by the Governor of Connecticut. The COVID-19 pandemic has crippled the company’s business and businesses around the country causing notice to not be foreseeable at the time that notice would have been required to be given.”
All affected employees are being notified of their layoff dates and that it may be permanent, according to officials.
