Man Assaulted Girlfriend in Front of 'Terrified' Young Girl: Windsor Locks Police

Officers forced entry into the home, after being told all was fine and to leave, out of concern for the girl.

Windsor Locks Police arrested a 27-year-old man on several charges after he allegedly fought with his girlfriend in the presence of a young girl, who police said appeared to be “terrified” and as a result, officers forced entry into the home out of concern for the girl.

Kenneth Lemieux was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with police and third-degree strangulation.

It all started at about 11:57 a.m. on July 15 when police received a 911 called from woman who said she overhead a fight involving her female friend and her friend’s boyfriend at 64B Elm Corners.

Sgt. Garofalo and Officers Lang, Lacasse, and Malone, arrived on scene, according to police.

Officers knocked on the door several times and after several minutes of trying to get a response from inside, an officer using a flashlight on the interior, observed an arm reach out and closed the bedroom door.

Officers observed movement of window shades from inside and Malone saw a crying young girl who appeared to be terrified but wouldn’t open the door.

A voice from inside, later identified as the female involved in the fight, related that all was fine and told officers to leave. Based on the facts known and said by the caller, the officers couldn’t leave without verifying the safety of all parties inside the home.

Police said the woman wouldn’t open the door and it was unknown if she was being threatened by someone inside the home.

The caller was contacted again to gather more information.

Sgt. Garofalo stated that based on the information from the caller, the fact that the female would not open the door, and the unknown condition of the crying child, it was determined that entry into the residence was imperative.

After numerous warnings, officers forced entry and went toward the closed bedroom door where both the female and her boyfriend were found, as well as the child.

The man, Lemieux, was handcuffed and was very hostile toward officers in the presence of the child, according to police.

Police also said the female victim was also hostile to officers.

The house was in ruins, with furniture tipped over, holes in the wall, and household items scattered throughout the house, which police said is indicative to this type of incident (physical altercation/struggle).

Lemieux was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters without incident.

The woman told police that Lemieux told her not to open the door.

The woman had bruising on her left inner bicep, her left foot, and on both knees, according to police.

Although the officers were denied access, police said the overriding concern was for the child who was seen as being terrified in her own home, and was not able confirm that she was safe.

The woman was issued a misdemeanor summons for interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct.

Lemieux (pictured) was held on a $2,500 bond and was due in court on July 17.
