Man Sentenced for Allegedly Raping Boy, Giving Him Herpes

Ronald G. Smith, 48, was sentenced to 45 years in prison Monday after being convicted of sexually assaulting a boy over a five-year period and giving him herpes in the process, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reports Smith, of Bloomfield, maintained his innocence to the end despite being found guilty by a Hartford Superior Court jury in June.

The boy was sexually assaulted from age 9 to 13 and the crimes took place in Hartford, Windsor and Windsor Locks, according to the Courant.

Smith is the former boyfriend of the victim’s mother, who backed Smith in the case, according to the Courant.

In addition to the prison time, Smith was sentenced to a lifetime registration as a sex offender.
