A northern Connecticut girls basketball team eliminated an undefeated top-seeded defending champion, 10 boys basketball teams from the area won their opening round matchups and four local ice hockey squads advanced to quarterfinal play as state tournament action was hot and heavy Monday for teams from Patch towns in Hartford and Tolland counties.
