More Than 200 CT Air National Guard Airmen Welcomed Home At BDL

Local veterans, state lawmakers, and families gathered to welcome Guard members home from deployments worldwide.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — More than 248 members of the Connecticut Air National Guard were welcomed home during a ceremony held by the 103d Airlift Wing at Bradley Air National Guard Base.

The event marked the return of Guard members who had been deployed overseas. It also gave families a chance to be recognized for supporting their loved ones while they were away.

During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Evon, along with other Connecticut state and National Guard leaders, handed out awards to the returning airmen. Officials said the awards were given to thank members for the work they did during deployments, including service in combat conditions.

Several different medals were presented during the event. These included the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air and Space Meritorious Service Medal, the Air and Space Commendation Medal, and the Air and Space Achievement Medal. Each award recognizes different types of service and effort during overseas missions.

Leaders said the ceremony was also meant to highlight the role Guard families play in keeping missions going, noting that support at home is a big part of success overseas.


The event ended with remarks reminding those in attendance that the Connecticut National Guard is always ready to serve, whether that means responding to missions abroad or helping communities here at home.
