New Study Says Windsor Locks is 29th Most Dangerous Town in CT
The rankings were released by real estate website Movoto.

Real estate website Movoto ranked Windsor Locks as the 29th most dangerous city or town in Connecticut.
To create the list, Movoto gathered all the places in Connecticut with populations of 10,000 people or more and used the 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report (although the FBI recently released 2013 statistics). A total of 37 municipalities were included in the list. Murders, violent crimes, and property crimes each comprised 30 percent of the overall score, whereas the total number of crimes comprised 10 percent. Each municipality’s rankings were combined into one Big Deal Score, where the lower the score was, the more dangerous the place.
Movoto notes that the rankings are not a critique of police practices or effectiveness. It is simply an analysis of where crimes occurred.

On their website, the FBI notes, “Each year when Crime in the United States is published, many entities—news media, tourism agencies, and other groups with an interest in crime in our nation—use reported figures to compile rankings of cities and counties. These rankings, however, are merely a quick choice made by the data user; they provide no insight into the many variables that mold the crime in a particular town, city, county, state, region, or other jurisdiction. Consequently, these rankings lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting cities and counties, along with their residents.”
Last week, a study by Value Penguin ranked Windsor Locks 47 out of 90 municipalities on a list of the least safe communities in the state. The study also used data from the 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report.
