Picture Windsor Locks - Then And Now

An old photograph and brief story from Windsor Locks history, and how that site appears today.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — The latest installment of this pictorial history series takes us back to the days of the Nixon administration, the Watergate scandal, Secretariat winning the Triple Crown of horse racing and the official opening of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. It was 1973, and on page 143 of the Windsor Locks High School yearbook, The Herald, was an advertisement for Allen Motors.

Located at 6 Stanton Road, the dealership sold and serviced Dodge cars and trucks. Here is where our readers can fill in the blanks, because after repeating the same ad the following year, there was never another mention of Allen Motors.

The site of the dealership is currently home to the Windsor Locks Department of Public Works. Here is a contemporary look at the property ... literally, as the picture was taken by me about an hour before publication.
