Windsor Locks Police Take Man Carrying Steak Knives Into Custody

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A man carrying two steak knives down Volunteer Drive has been taken into custody. Officers made contact, established a safe zone around the man, and maintained a dialogue with him. Eventually, the man put the knives down and was secured without further incident.

He was transported to a hospital for treatment and evaluation, according to police.

"We are fortunate to have such experienced officers who quickly assessed the situation," police said in a statement. "They were keenly aware of the danger presented by the male but were able to find a way to reach this person and open a line of communication. They identified the altered mental status of the male and ultimately were able to avoid a potentially deadly encounter."
