Police Warn About Windsor Locks 'Water Assassins'

Concerns are arising in the Windsor Locks community regarding a common, end-of-year game featuring high school juniors and seniors.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A local, end-of-year high school tradition is causing concern in Windsor Locks, as a water gun game is causing worry in the age of school shootings.

The Windsor Locks Police Department issued an alert last week on the problem.

According to the WLPD, the game features Windsor Locks High School juniors and seniors playing a game called "water assassins."

The game is supposed to be a variation of typical water gun games played in the summer, but with this game students are assigned a random "target" from a game organizer.

Police said players "must spray them with a water gun in a timely manner."

"The school does not condone this game but it is played after school hours, all across town," wrote the police department.

But police are worried an innocent game could be misinterpreted by the public, leading to a more dangerous situation.

"As many of you know students have played this game for years at the end of each school year, and every year we get multiple 911 calls stemming from the game by unaware citizens," wrote the WLPD.

The department's school resource officer has already been in touch with juniors and seniors, asking them to play with a few guidelines so as to minimize any future anxiety in the community.

Guidelines urged include:

• No black water guns.

• Play in daylight only.

• No following each other in vehicles or using vehicles to play the game in any manner.

"Students have been explained the dangers associated with this game," wrote police. "If you see any unsafe behavior related to this, please reach out to the WLPD."
