Power of Parents Event - 74% of Windsor Locks youth say parents are the #1 influence when it comes to alcohol, according to the 2014 Windsor Locks Student Survey.
This event is created to equip parents to have ongoing and potentially lifesaving conversations about alcohol and other drugs with their kids. The best time to start this ongoing conversation is before age 12! This event is open to the North Street, South School, Middle School and High School parents, grandparents, and caregivers.
In Windsor Locks Middle & High School students say, “Alcohol is easy to find there is always alcohol in a cabinet or a garage somewhere” according to the 2014 WL Student Survey. Join us on Tuesday April 5th at the Windsor Locks Senior Center, 41 Oak Street. There will be free dinner for families starting at 5:30p.m., followed by local teens talking to parents about substance abuse, and finally the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Power of Parents presentation with guest speaker, Windsor Locks resident, Michelle Taylor. Free child care available with advanced registration. This event is sponsored by the Windsor Locks Wellness Coalition - a community collaboration to support families & youth in healthy decisions & thereby reduce substance use.
