In a separate post, Kathy Macsata said the award in memory of William H. Towers Sr. was especially meaningful for the family.

“A few years ago, we lost my dad Bill Towers Sr. suddenly,” she wrote. “He was so proud to be a member of the Broad Brook Fire Dept.”

She said the $500 scholarship was awarded to Kasey June, his granddaughter, and presented by her uncle.

“There are no words for how emotional and meaningful this is for our family,” Macsata wrote. “I know without a doubt he would have been incredibly proud of the young woman she has become.”

The Broad Brook Fire Department congratulated Kasey and wished her well in her studies.
