Schools Closed, Parking Ban And Plowing Ongoing In Windsor Locks, East Windsor

Town officials say plowing operations are ongoing as winter weather continues to affect local services.

WINDSOR LOCKS / EAST WINDSOR, CT — A winter storm continued to impact Windsor Locks and East Windsor on Monday, leading to school closures, a parking ban, plowing operations, and trash collection delays, according to town and school officials.

All schools and district offices in both communities were closed Monday, Jan. 26, because of weather conditions. Officials with Windsor Locks Public Schools and East Windsor Public Schools said classes and offices would remain closed for the day, urging families and staff to stay warm and safe.

A parking ban remained in effect in Windsor Locks as of Monday morning. In a 10:15 a.m. update, the Windsor Locks Police Department said snow and sleet were still possible and that public works crews continued plowing town roadways. Residents were asked to give plow trucks clear passage and to be mindful of sidewalks and fire hydrants during cleanup.

The Windsor Locks Department of Public Works said refuse collection will follow a Monday holiday schedule, meaning all curbside pickup will occur one day later than normal. The town’s hauler, All American Waste, will operate on the adjusted schedule.

Officials with the Town of East Windsor also announced a one-day delay for curbside trash collection next week due to the heavy snow forecast.

Snow totals of roughly 1 to 2 feet had already fallen across the area by Monday morning, with additional accumulation expected as snow and sleet continue through the day, according to forecasts.
