WHAT IS SHATTERED DREAMS?
“Shattered Dreams” is a two-day program designed to provide high school students with a dramatic impression of the risks of drinking and driving. “Shattered Dreams” was presented at Windsor Locks High School on four previous occasions – 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. Students have come to expect the program once every four years.

“Shattered Dreams” comprises a mock fatal car accident, injured passengers and rescue vehicles. Parents of the “accident victim” are contacted ahead of time and asked to become involved in their child’s tragedy by writing an obituary and going through the mourning process with the help of a clergyman. In addition, a group of students is selected during the day of the crash by being chosen as victims - one every fifteen minutes – symbolic of the frequency of teen accident fatalities. This group becomes the core of a second-day school-wide assembly following their in-depth processing of their experience at a facilitated evening “retreat” involving a chaperoned overnight stay.

The program is intentionally scheduled to take place before the Junior Prom, Senior Ball, and graduation. The unofficial date of Shattered Dreams 2016 is April 27th and 28th.
