The driver slammed on the brakes as he approached the accident scene of a multi-car crash that police were investigating.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on DUI charges, and others, after Windsor Locks police say he was speeding and nearly struck several bystanders as an officer was investigating a multi-car accident.
It was a wild scene last Friday night (July 17), beginning when police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a two-car accident, with injuries, at the intersection of South Main Street and Lawnacre Road at about 11:15 p.m.
Police said the officer was checking to see who was injured when a Ford Explorer approached the scene at speeds estimated to be more than 60 mph and the vehicle did not slow down as it approached.

The driver was identified as Clifford Morrell, 27. Police said an investigation ensued and the officer observed a long wooden stick with black tape wrapped around the end sticking out from the back seat. The stick had numerous nails sticking out of the other end and was made to effect as much physical damage as possible, according to police.
Police said Morrell failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.
Morrell was charged with reckless driving, operating under the influence of liquor, drugs or both and weapons in a motor vehicle. He was held on a $3,000 bond and is due in court on July 28.
