State Representative Joe Verrengia targets I-84 in West Hartford.

In light of Tuesday morning’s fatal single-car crash on I-84 East in which an unidentified male driver died at St. Francis Hospital following injuries sustained when his car struck a guardrail and flipped over, State Representative Joe Verrengia (D-West Hartford) is calling for a meeting between the Department of Transportation and local officials.

“This morning there was yet another fatal accident on I84 in West Hartford. This year alone there have been numerous rollovers and accidents resulting in people being killed. To continue to do nothing is not an option,” said Rep. Verrengia. “Considering the nature of this stretch of interstate, the amount of traffic that runs through the area, and the characteristics of the highway, I believe the Department of Transportation should address this situation before yet another fatality takes place.”
Rep. Verrengia has requested an immediate meeting with the DOT and local and legislative officials to discuss potential lifesaving solutions.

“While I appreciate the current economic situation, this section I-84 commonly referred as the “S curves” presents a high level public safety concern that must be addressed as soon as possible and should be a top priority,” said Rep. Rep. Verrengia is in his second term serving the 20th House District in West Hartford. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Public Safety and Security Committee
