WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — The son of a former Windsor Locks first selectman has been endorsed by the Democratic Town Committee to fill a vacancy on the Board of Selectmen created by the recent resignation of J. Christopher Kervick.

Jonathan Savino received unanimous endorsement of the Democratic Town Committee at a special meeting Wednesday night. The Board of Selectmen will vote on ratifying the nomination at its Dec. 21 meeting.

After six years as first selectman, Kervick lost that seat in the November election to Paul Harrington, but kept a spot on the Board of Selectmen. He resigned that post earlier this week, and announced he will work as an attorney for the developers planning to revitalize Main Street.

A lifelong resident of Windsor Locks, Savino is the son of the late Ed Savino, who served the town for more than a dozen years. He ran for a seat on the Board of Selectmen in November, but came up short in his bid.

Prior to his retirement, he worked in airline operations and became well-versed in providing logistical support to Bradley International Airport.

"I am excited to be endorsed, I love this town and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our town and to help make this town the best it can be," he said following the special meeting.

In a written statement, the town committee said, "We chose Jon to be our candidate because he has a solid foundation, is a person of great character, and is committed to the Windsor Locks community. In addition, Jon has the keen ability to encourage positive and healthy relationships and to effectively collaborate with others to accomplish mutually-beneficial goals for the people of Windsor Locks. It is without a doubt that Jon will be a dependable working partner with the Board of Selectmen and make sound decisions."
