Dear Friend,
On behalf of the planning committee for the Pat Scelza field dedication ceremony, I would like to request your financial support in creating a memorial that fits the magnitude of this honor. As you may already know, Pat Scelza started the Windsor Locks football program in 1970. In 1972 football officially became a varsity sport in Windsor Locks. Since its inception and until his retirement in 2010, Pat had been the only head coach in Windsor Locks. In the Central Valley Conference, the Raiders had two second place finishes. In the Pequot League Pat had four first place finishes and six runner-up finishes, resulting in one State Playoff appearance. Coach Scelza has coached 10 All-State Players and many of his players have gone on to play college football. One player had a brief career in the National Football League. While a Social Studies teacher in Windsor Locks, Pat also has coached JV girls’ and boys’ basketball and coached varsity girls’ softball as well. His softball teams won 78% of their games, winning 278 games in 18 years where he won six league titles! Pat Scelza is being honored for all of his accomplishments with the most notable being two Connecticut High School Sportsmanship Awards for football, a Lifetime Contributor Award from the Connecticut High School Coaches Association and his influence as a father figure in the lives of many students throughout his years at Windsor Locks High School.
