
Sophie (Couch) Hobart, 97, of East Hartford, loving wife of over 54 years of the late Alden M. "Hobie" Hobart, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Bickford Health Care Center in Windsor Locks.
Born in Amherst, MA on February 29, 1920, a daughter of the late Peter and Sophie (Szpila) Couch, she had been a resident of East Hartford for over 70 years. Prior to her retirement, Sophie was employed for over 35 years by Aetna Insurance Company where she was a Supervisor, and a member and former treasurer of the Aetna Girls Club.
A devout Catholic, Sophie was a long-time communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford and recited the rosary faithfully. She liked having both vegetable and flower gardens in her yard and was an avid loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. Most of all, she was a proud and hardworking wife, mother, and grandmother who loved supporting them at their sporting events and extra-curricular activities.

Sophie is survived by her devoted children: her son, Alden "Skip" Peter Hobart of Hartford; and her daughter, Geraldine "Gerry" Brown and her long-time partner, Roger Krar, of East Hartford; four cherished grandchildren, Heather Barratt and her husband, Simon, of Wethersfield, Greg Brown and his partner, Claire Worth, of New Bedford, NH, Jason, and Christie; two adored great-grandsons, Ethan Barratt and Lucas Barratt both of Wethersfield; a dear friend, Rose Chitwood of East Hartford; and several nieces.
Funeral service will be Monday (July 31st) at 10:30 am from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Christopher Campus of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, (Section E), East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Monday morning from 9 - 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sophie's name may be made to the Bickford Health Care Center, HABITAT, 14 Main Street, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
