At a meeting on Monday, April 25th, members of the community engaged in a conversation about the future use of the Windsor Locks Public School buildings led by Drummey, Rosane, and Anderson, the firm selected to conduct a thorough facilities study for the school district. The firm explained their findings during the data collection portion of the study, and officially kicked off the involvement of community input during the April 25th meeting.

After a presentation by the study’s leaders, a discussion was held regarding the possible options and configurations of the school buildings to meet student needs, district goals, and address anticipated maintenance, renovation, and other functional considerations. The project leaders presented a total of 10 different options for the community to consider. These options addressed the following questions:

Should we add on to North Street School? (where we are at capacity)
Should we close a school? (since our enrollment has decreased, but is projected to remain flat over the next decade)
Should we consider creating two elementary schools that both serve grades PK-5?
How can we provide full-day free PreK for all 3 and 4 year olds? (at present, we only provide half-day)

The participants provided thoughtful questions and important input that will continue to shape the different options that will ultimately be considered by the Windsor Locks Board of Education next Fall. This is a community-wide opportunity to help guide the process towards the best result for the Windsor Locks Public Schools. The NEXT community meeting to discuss the future of the Windsor Locks Public Schools is scheduled for Monday, May 23 at 7:00 pm, at Windsor Locks High School.

ALL community members are invited to participate and provide input – we need your voice!
