Alyssa Cole of Woodbury Wins MxCC Foundation 10k Race

Halloween Day Race Brought Out Largest Number of Runners and Walkers in Race History

Alyssa Cole of Woodbury won the women’s 10K division of the 2015 MxCC Foundation Scholarship Road Race held Saturday, October 31, with a time of 42:38. This race included a record-breaking field of runners and walkers – many in costume – and raised more than $14,000 for MxCC student scholarships (with $2,000 donated to helping veterans’ support services at the College). More than 275 people participated as 5k or 10k race runners, or as 4k course walkers – the largest group in race history.

Brad Overturf of Cromwell won the men’s 10K division with a time of 39:33. The overall 5K champions were Mark Groom, a veteran, of Middletown with a time of 19:20 and Lauren Hurst of West Simsbury with a time of 23:00. Additionally, the MxCC staff and faculty champions were Troy Schinkel of Wolcott with a time of 19:37 (5K) and Christine Witkowski of Glastonbury with a time of 24:47 (5K).

“This was our first Halloween race in a long time, so it was great to see so many runners and walkers arrive in costume,” said Jay Keiser, chairperson of the MxCC Scholarship Race Committee. “It was a fun twist on this popular tradition, which was record-breaking this year. Thanks to our sponsors and supporters who make this such as successful fundraiser for our scholarship and veterans support programs.”
