Six Local Fire Departments in Drill;

Woodbury Fire Dept's chief engineer Don Harris supervises (at left in photo) his part in an water supply drill involving six local fire departments to meet ISO (International Standards Organization) requirements on Wednesday Sept 23rdhosted by the Watertown Fire Department. To meet ISO requirements, mutual aid fire units must establish a continuous water flow of 250 gallons per minute within five minutes of arrival on-scene and keep it up for two hours. With that in mind, the six departments demonstrated three times the requirement with a continuous flow of 750 gallons per minutes from an alternative source such as a pond or private stream and efficiently shuttled it to a central location. In another part of the exercise, firefighters met requirements for a combined refill operation with a target of 1,000 gallons per minute.Participating departments in alphabetical order were Bethlehem, Middlebury, Morris, Roxbury, Watertown, and Woodbury. "These are critical requirements for public protection," summed up Woodbury Chief Janet B. Morgan.
