Community Services Council of Woodbury "Spread the Light" appeal

The Community Services Council of Woodbury is conducting its “Spread the Light” fundraising appeal during June to provide every member of the community the opportunity to light up the night during the Fourth of July weekend.

The “Spread the Light” campaign offers donors the opportunity for a minimum gift of $10 to CSCW to dedicate one of the many large three-dimensional stars that will be displayed on Saturday, July 2, at several Main Street sites in Woodbury including the Cannon and North greens. Community Services Council volunteers will decorate trees on the greens with one star for each donation received, and place glow sticks within the stars shortly before dusk to light up small constellations at the Main Street sites throughout the evening.

Proceeds from the “Spread the Light” appeal will support the food, fuel and emergency assistance programs of the CSCW, an independent nonprofit organization that currently serves approximately 100 low-income households in Woodbury. The Council operates the Woodbury Food Bank, provides supplementary heating and energy assistance, and offers short-term aid to families in financial crisis.

One three-dimensional star of durable paper construction and approximately 24 inches in width will be purchased for display for each donation of $10 or more received by Tuesday, June 21. Each donor also will be invited to submit a memorial or honorary dedication; all dedications will be recorded on separate small paper stars that will be displayed during July at the Woodbury Public Library.

Locations to submit donations and dedication notes, as well as examples of the stars to be displayed, will be available during June at the Woodbury Public Library and Canfield Corner Pharmacy. Donations by mail should be made payable to the Community Services Council and addressed to the CSCW at PO Box 585, Woodbury CT 06798; please indicate “Spread the Light” on the memo line and enclose a memorial or honorary dedication if desired.
