Arts and Culture Commission Rejected at Woodbury Town Meeting
The vote failed to produce a majority in favor of the commission.

Woodbury voters rejected the establishment of a permanent arts and culture commission at the annual town meeting on Monday, the Republican-American reports.
The votes produced a 79-79 tie that failed to achieve a majority.
According to the paper, the proposed commission called for eight commissioners who would recommend and identify venues for artistic displays, coordinate events and represent the views of artists and cultural groups.

Those opposed to the idea questioned the need for government intervention in the arts and said the commission would end up costing the town more than what was advertised, the paper reports.
First Selectman William J. Butterly Jr., who was in favor of the commission said he was baffled how someone could be opposed to such a commission.
