Spring Break Ideas for Families

Read on for fun explorations, day trips and special activities over Spring Break.

If you're home with your children this coming week, it's a great time to drive a little farther with the kids. Most of the major attractions around the state are having special programs to coincide with April Break.

Old Sturbridge Village starts Spring Break early with activities taking place this weekend and next weekend.

Monday is Patriots Day and young visitors are invited to participate in drills with reenactors. Other special activities are occurring all week long. Make a tri-corner hat, enjoy Fife and Drum music, help churn butter, see muskets firing and watch a puppet show. For an additional fee, kids can make a tin candle holder and dip their own candles for it (my kids have theirs proudly displayed).

Check out some famous aircraft at the New England Air Museum with different activities each day during Spring Break. Monday, the museum will have different, interactive demonstrations that teach about the principles of flight. Climb into the cockpit of six different types of aircraft on Tuesday. You can see the rest of the week's schedule at the New England Air Museum website

The Yale Peabody is inviting people to bring in specimens for identification on Monday. Is there a caterpillar you've been trying to identify or a mysterious plant you've always wondered about? When you bring a specimen, you also get yourself and guest into the museum for free.

More activities at the Peabody include Family Day on Tuesday, "biodiversity bites back" on Thursday and raising awareness for Earth Day on Friday.
