Cause Determined in Fatal Middlebury Fire: Report

The Whittemore Road fire killed a 65-year-old man.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — The Dec. 27 fire on Whittemore Road in Middlebury that killed 65-year-old William Harrison was started by an unattended electric space heater in the kitchen, reports the Waterbury Republican-American.

Middlebury Fire Marshal Jack Proulx called the fire accidental, and the state medical examiner's office ruled that Harrison died of smoke inhalation, also determined to be accidental.

The fire started on the first floor of the two-family home, and ripped through a portion of the second floor and through the roof, according to the publication.
