The holiday season is here once again, and so is a revival of the fun-filled family musical Shivering Santa, by Woodbury writer and composer Lois Fiftal.

First staged in 2014 to sellout audiences by the Community Theatre at Woodbury, Shivering Santa is a joyous holiday show with a cast of 33 chosen from eight different towns in Litchfield County and beyond. For 2018, author Fiftal has added more music, included another colorful character, and woven in a romantic subplot.

The main story for the young and young-at-heart involves the weird mystery of why Santa has become so overwhelmed by the cold that he wants to move Mrs. Claus and his entire North Pole operation to Tahiti. A zany collection of the North Pole populous and Santa's elves, led by Max McWreath, Santa's Chief Operating Officer, vainly try to solve Santa's dilemma.

This comedy, uses snappy, humorous dialogue, tuneful songs and energetic dances, accompanied by a pit band, to carry the story's ultimate lesson of teamwork, respect and caring for each other.

The cast, primarily of a dozen adult characters, features Merry Mistletoe, the North Pole mail carrier, zany Bavarian Dr. Icicle, crusty and wacky Jack Frost, mischievous snow bugs, and Donner, the lovable but clumsy reindeer who has an annoying habit of getting his antlers stuck in improbable places. The adult cast is enhanced by Santa's Elves, played by energetic and talented area youngsters.
