Concerned Citizens Protest Proposed Oxford Power Plant During Siting Council Visit
A meeting is currently being held at the Oxford High School and a meeting open to the public will be held at 6 p.m.
Protesters opposed to the construction of the CPV Towantic Energy Center in Oxford were present during the Connecticut Siting Council’s inspection of the power plant’s proposed building site, the Republican-American reports.
According to the paper, currently about 50 people, most of whom are elected officials are submitting testimony to the council about the proposed facility at the meeting being held at Oxford High School.
Starting at 6 p.m., a sign-up sheet will be made available for members of the public who want to make statements on the record, the paper reports. They will be given three minutes to make statements.

The project was approved on a permit 15-years ago that allows for it to be built as a 512-megawatt plan in an industrial zone on Woodruff Hill Road. Massachusetts-based Competitive Power Venture is seeking to modify the application to accommodate a larger facility at the same location. The Connecticut Siting council agreed to consider an application for a larger power plant at the proposed site in December.
