Congrats! Woodbury Students Honored by CT Association of Public School Superintendents
The students were honored at a banquet for their achievements.
Four Region 14 students were recently honored at the 30th Annual CAPSS/LCSA Superintendents’ Student Recognition Dinner held at the Cornucopia Banquet Hall in Torrington on Nov. 19
The event featured students from over 20 Connecticut school districts who received commendations from their respective Superintendents.
Superintendent of schools, Dr. Anna Cutaia-Leonard awarded certificates of excellence to Lindsey Ross and Justin Noel, students at Woodbury Middle School and to Nonnewaug High School students Sarah Schivera and Matthew Albino.

The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents and the Litchfield County Superintendents’ Association celebrate student achievement and excellence at this annual event. Region 14’s recipients were chosen based on their demonstration of leadership at school and in the community, as well as their academic and extra-curricular achievements.

Woodbury Middle School:
Justin Noel is a very motivated eighth grade student at Woodbury Middle School. He is well liked and regarded by both peers and adults. Justin is able to rise to almost any challenge and is a consistently positive role model. Justin works hard in every subject, though he says Math is his favorite. His dedication to excellence is evident in his grades, his commitment to wrestling, and running cross country. Justin also encourages preschoolers’ love of reading through his membership in our school’s “Promote Reading Club.”
Lindsey Ross is a dedicated 8th grade student at Woodbury Middle School. She enjoys music, has played the piano for 7 years, and plays the viola in her school’s orchestra. She loves field hockey, and is a leader for the school’s team and teams outside of school. Lindsey cares about WMS, and is part of the Warrior Council to help create a friendly school and town community. After participating in the STEM field trip in seventh grade, Lindsey realized she would love to pursue engineering.
Nonnewaug High School:
Matthew Albino is a senior at Nonnewaug High School. An exemplary student who excels academically, Matthew is a passionate learner, President of the National Honor Society, a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Editor and Chief for the school newspaper. He is a student liaison for “Advocates for Substance Abuse Prevention.” He is a hardworking athlete for his school, running varsity cross country and competing in track and field. He takes great pride in his school and devotes much time to helping others.
Sarah Schivera is a senior at Nonnewaug High School who puts her whole heart into everything she does. She is President of the Senior Class, Vice-President of the National Honor Society and an officer for FBLA. Sarah is also a member of the soccer, basketball and unified track teams and works at the school branch of Ion Bank. She is the assistant coach for a toddler soccer team and a leader at Woodbury United Methodist Church. Sarah is truly a well-rounded and outstanding young woman.
