CT Man Arrested Trying to Cut Copper Bars from AT&T Tower: State Police

The incident occurred Friday morning in Middlebury, according to state police.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — A 34-year-old Plainville man was arrested on burglary, larceny and related charges Friday morning after he allegedly tried to steal copper bars from an AT&T tower in Middlebury, according to state police.

Joseph B. Legeyt was arrested at about 8:35 a.m. after state police said he tried to cut "copper ground buss bars" from a tower inside an AT&T structure near I-84.

"The tower and AT&T building are enclosed by a locked chain-link fence," wrote Sgt. Eric Haglund in a statement.

Legeyt was charged with:

  • Burglary, third degree
  • Possession of Burglary Tools
  • Criminal Trespass, second degree
  • Criminal Mischief, first degree
  • Larceny, fourth degree

He was held in lieu of a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 16.
