Dates to Remember in 2011

Patch has put together a list of dates you should remember in 2011.

February 3rd
The emergency preparedness exercise, referred to as WOP-Charlie 1, will take place in the town of Woodbury on Thursday February 3. The daylong tabletop exercise has been designed to enhance existing cooperation and communication during times of disaster, identify gaps and develop strategies within the existing emergency operation plan and gauge the ability Woodbury currently has to deal with and recover from large-scale disaster.


February 17
th
Woodbury and Bethlehem residents will soon be given the opportunity to decide the alignment of Region 14 elementary schools. The Region 14 Board of Education voted unanimously this month to approve a referendum question eliminating K-5 schools and forming separate K-2 and a 3-5 schools. If passed, Bethlehem Elementary would become a primary school housing grades K-2 and Mitchell Elementary in Woodbury would become an intermediate school housing grades 3-5. A preliminary date for the referendum vote was set for Thursday, February 17.


March 2nd
Allegations have been made this month that a member of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department sexually harassed a Middlebury woman. Anastasia Persico filed a complaint with the Town of Middlebury on Dec. 6, claiming to have been sexually harassed by Deputy Fire Chief David Desmarais of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department. These allegations come eight months after Persico filed a complaint with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities alleging gender discrimination against Middlebury Fire Chief Paul Perrotti. There has been a mediation hearing set for March 2011 with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities to further discuss these allegations.


January 10th
The public hearing regarding a proposed addition to St. Teresa of Avila Church, 11 Washington Avenue in Woodbury has been set for January 10. The Historic District Commission will hold the public hearing at 7:30 p.m. in the Shove Building, which will discuss a two-story addition to the rear of the building.
