De Cortin and Kapstein Propose Increased Education Communication

Initiative to Take Place after Tuesday's Election for the Region 14 Board of Education

WOODBURY– Region 14 Board of Education candidates Ed De Cortin and Jonathan Kapstein agree that a more dynamic conversation with the Region’s parents and other taxpayers is needed.

Public interest in budgets, policies, processes, goals, and achievements requires accessible communication channels. Tools providing the means are available to create the potential for a more inclusive and informed education support structure.

“We’ve all learned how to communicate remotely during the COVID-era; let’s put that learning to work for Region 14 stakeholders after the June 30 election”, De Cortin said. “With Jonathan’s acknowledged media presence and ability to communicate, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take advantage of his talents.”

A significant number of interactions on the Web are facilitated by Content Management Systems (CMS). These CMSs, and the subset web-logs, create opportunities for discussion while preserving records and serving data. The tools could improve relations and transparency across the Region 14 spectrum.

“When Ed said we need to do a better job of outreach and public relations, I didn’t know how much thought he’d put into the practical side of the equation. There is a lot of potential in the suggestion.” Kapstein continued, “I see what my peers are doing and want to be a part of that experience.

If elected, Jon Kapstein would replace veteran member Maryanne Van Aken. Ed De Cortin joined the board during 2019 after a special election.
