Education Costs May Lead to Tax Hike for Middlebury Residents

The Region 15 school budget is still being finalized.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — Middlebury residents can likely expect a small tax hike for the fiscal 2018-19 year. The town is seeking a 2.16 percent hike in the town side of operations, which First Selectman Edward B. St. John told the Republican-American he believes can be offset by revenues.

But the issue is that the town will pay more for Region 15 education costs, which is likely to lead to a tax hike, the Rep-Am reports. On top of what Middlebury typically pays to fund Region 15, it's expected to pay an additional $402,073 next year due to the expected student enrollment configuration.

The Region 15 budget is still being finalized.
