Autumn Festival

As the seasons change, Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust is celebrating with its annual “Autumn Festival” on Saturday, October 1 from noon to

4:00 pm, rain or shine , at the Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary, 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury.

            Flanders’ “Autumn Festival” features entertainment for all ages, as well as children’s games and crafts. Hop on board the tractor ride to view the fall foliage. Exhibits and demonstrations include pumpkin painting, wreath-making, pottery and maple candy-making, among others. There will be a display by Flanders about the award-winning Botany Trail, as well as information on land management and land trust activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

            A highlight of this year’s event is the “Strange World of Reptiles” program at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., presented by Snakes N Scales, featuring lizards, geckos, turtles, tortoises, snakes of many sizes and a rescued baby American alligator.

            Musical entertainment will be provided by String Band, which presents a raucous mix of jug band, acoustic rock, funny originals and danceable American music.Instrumentation includes, mandolin, acosutic guitar, drums, electic bass, congas, harmonica, electric guitar, and sometimes fiddle. String Band is known for encouraging participation and helping young and old have fun at be-yourself gatherings and events.

Admission to the “Autumn Festival” is $5 per person, $15 per family and $20 for groups of 8 or more. To register your group, call (203) 263-3711, x 10.
