Living, and Being OK with Dying

     On Thursday evening, April 5, beginning at 6 p.m., the Middlebury Public Library will offer an evening of Community Support, hosting a free hands-on workshop about Living and Being OK with Dying. 

     Mary Ann Snieckus,  recently retired Newtown High School Photography teacher and member of Bernie Siegel's Exceptional Cancer Patients Support Group, will facilitate the hands-on workshop using some of her own recent photography and art therapy work.   Given a six month prognosis, Mary Ann has broadened her support system and uses her creativity to keep strong in mind, body and spirit.  The workshop will offer an interesting spin on the expression of pain, love and transforming experiences through stories, art and musings.

The workshop is designed to encourage audience participation, to share stories, artwork, music and written expression about how you get through your difficult times.  This will also give those facing death, their caregivers friends and family, or those grieving the loss of a loved one, a chance to have conversations with people who are sharing similar experiences.

Art pieces shared that evening will hang in a month long exhibition at the library.  Colored pencils, paper and matte board will be available for additional musings. Please share your talents with other patients, caregivers, family and friends so they may understand your thoughts.

Dr. Bernie Siegel, MD, author of Love, Medicine & Miracles, and Peace, Love and Healing, and holistic advocate of human transformation during difficult times, will make a guest appearance, give remarks and read poetry about life and death later in the evening.

Artists,writers wanting to exhibit one or two pieces for the month long exhibit can bring in work that evening or if not attending the workshop, drop off art to the library beginning Tuesday, April 3. Each art piece should be accompanied by a short excerpt about the work for the display.
