Mario Pavone to play at Mattatuck Museum’s First Thursday



Bassist and composer Mario Pavone will perform at the Mattatuck Museum’s First Thursday on January 5, 2012 from 5:30 - 7:30pm. All are invited to come and enjoy a thrilling evening of jazz with this music legend and Waterbury, CT native who will be accompanied by alto saxophonist Kris Allen, Russ Johnson on trumpet, Craig Hartley on piano, trombonist Peter McEachern and George Schuller on drums and percussion.

Unlike most artists whose careers span five decades, his most recent recordings are his most widely acclaimed, appearing on best-of-the-year lists from the Village Voice and the New York Times, among others. He currently serves as an educator, administrator and board member for the Litchfield Jazz Festival and Litchfield Summer Jazz Camp in Litchfield, Connecticut. Mario Pavone has been awarded the prestigious 2009 Chamber Music America / New Jazz Works / Commissioning and Ensemble Grant. He was one of 12 recipients chosen from a pool of 161 applications. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious New Work Commission from the Chamber Music America funded by the Doris Duke Foundation.
