FAA Rules Against Proposed Oxford Power Plant Review

A representative for the Waterbury-Oxford Airport thinks the plant's smokestacks could be a flight hazard.

The decision to build a power plant near the Waterbury-Oxford Airport remains unchallenged.

An article in the Republican-American reported that the Federal Aviation Administration has ruled against a local man’s petition to have the CPV Towantic project scrutinized further.

Raymond Pietrorazio of Middlebury took issue with the FAA’s ruling that the 150-foot smokestacks at the proposed $1 billion power plant would have no substantial adverse effect on flying safely into and out of the airport.

Pietrorazio, who is Middlebury’s representative for the airport, said the FAA ruling did not take into consideration the smoke plumes from the proposed plant, the Republican-American said.

An air permit from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will be the subject of a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Oxford High School.
