Fire Chief Paul Perrotti just stated, over the scanner, that the firefighters will be using approximately 4,000 gallons from a hydrant on Long Meadow Road to combat the rekindled flames.

Update, 10:12 p.m. March 6:

According to a report just released by Richard Wildman, Acting Middlebury Police Chief, police and firefighters responded to the house at 381 Lake Shore Drive on report of a structure fire with people inside trying to put it out.

When police arrived shortly after 8 p.m. they found the single family home to be fully engulfed in flames. The two occupants were found outside the residence, unhurt.

The wind contributed to the spread of the fire, police said. The house is also located in a rural area with no fire hydrants, police said. Police and fire officials will most likely be on the scene throughout the night.

The cause is unknown at this time, but early indications found that it might have started in the garage, near the basement area. Police said they will follow up with the Fire Marshal in the morning.

Update, 9:52 p.m. March 6:

The address of the house fire is 381 Lake Shore Drive in Middlebury.
