Fred Edsel Thorp, 94, Of Woodbury: Former Flight Engineer And Restaurateur
A memorial service will be held between 1-4 pm Sunday, March 26, at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home in Southbury.

The following obituary of Woodbury resident Fred Edsel Thorp, 94, is from Munson-Lovetere Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc.:
Fred Edsel Thorp, 94, of Woodbury, husband of Tokiko (Okamoto) Thorp died peacefully Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born October 4, 1922 in Cohocton NY. He was the son of the late Fred and Alta (Wallace) Thorp. Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran. Prior to World War II he completed a course of aviation ground school. He was in the Naval aviation service during the war and received further training.

After leaving the service he continued his education and had been designated by the Civil Aeronautics Authority as a qualified inspector of aircraft with the Elmira Aeronautical Corp. Before his retirement, he was a flight engineer for Federal Express, Flying Tigers, Seaboard Airlines and TWA. He also owned and operated Kabuki Japanese Steak House in Danbury for 27 years.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Jeffery Thorp of Falls Church VA and James Thorp and his wife Susan Southworth Thorp of Southbury.

A memorial service will be held between 1 -4 pm Sunday, March 26 at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main North St., Southbury. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
