Free Groundwater Well Testing Offered in Woodbury

The Pomperaug Health District and Dept. of Health will evaluate the presence of arsenic and uranium in 30-40 residential groundwater wells.

The State of Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) is working collaboratively with the Pomperaug Health District to evaluate the presence of arsenic and uranium in residential groundwater wells.

Between 30 and 40 private wells will be randomly selected throughout the towns of Southbury, Woodbury, and Oxford. Public Health Intern Maria Taccariello is coordinating the effort.

If your home is located within one of these three towns, and you’d like to participate in the study, please call Taccariello at 203.264.9616.

Sampling will be based on randomized selection of entries. All results of well water samples collected by the Pomperaug Health District become public record.

There is no fee to homeowners, and all water samples collected as part of this study will be tested at the CT State Department of Public Health laboratory in Rocky Hill. Should any of the water samples test positive for arsenic and/or uranium, homeowners will receive guidance from state and local officials regarding appropriate well water treatment.
