Healthy Food and So Much More Right Around the Corner
New Morning has been taking care of Woodbury residents' bodies with natural and organic products for forty years and they keep on growing.
Although New Morning in Woodbury may be called a “health food store," in reality it is so much more than the term implies.
In addition to the organic and local produce, nuts, grains and natural meats and cheeses the store sells, there is an entire supplement and homeopathic section filled with herbs, natural cosmetics and vitamins. There is even a natural garden care section with seeds, organic sprays and natural pest control options.
New Morning has been selling these natural and organic products to the community for the past forty years. This is the third location the store has been in to date and owners John and Jane Pittari will be doing the big move again when New Morning expands to a new building on 129 Main Street North in December.

“It’s a much larger space,” said customer care coordinator Lisa Coppola of the store’s new location.
New Morning employs sixty people in its store, including a licensed esthetician, a licensed dietician, a traditionally trained homeopath and an herbalist.

“There’s a lot of stuff in here and it can be overwhelming,” said Coppola of the hundreds of products for sale. That’s exactly why New Morning staffs these experts on all things healthy.
And they’re certainly up on their knowledge of what’s hot and what’s not in the world of healthy living. Acai, for example, was the superfood to put into your body for optimal health benefits, but Coppola explained its popularity is waning a bit.
New Morning Dietician Desmond O’Grady said that Glucomannan is the hot new supplement.
“Glucomannan was on Dr. Oz,” he explained. That’s all it took and now the new weight loss product is flying off of shelves.
If it’s healthy eating you want to maintain a healthy weight, New Morning has just about everything you could want to create a healthy meal from scratch. Their bulk section includes beans, grains and flour so if you only need a cup of flour, you only have to buy a cup of flour. The store is big on leading a no waste lifestyle.
“What we do is really different,” said Coppola.
And it’s all healthy.
“None of the products sold here contain hydrogenated oils or artificial flavors or colors,” added Coppola. New Morning sells milk from local dairies and regional cheeses.
Natural chickens and fish are popular but none match the Stonewood turkeys that customers special order for Thanksgiving.
“We have the most phenomenal natural turkeys at Thanksgiving,” said Executive Chef at the store Carol Byer-Alcorace. “We have so many people that it’s almost a cult; they have to have their Stonewood turkey at Thanksgiving and they would order it again the day after the holiday if they could.”
Byer-Alcorace said to keep in mind that natural turkeys and grass-fed beef cooks slower because of the way the fat and muscle grow together.
And if you don’t want to cook tonight, there’s no reason to hit a drive thru for a quick bite to eat. The Provender, the store’s prepared foods counter, has got you covered with a nutritious dinner that you don’t have to slave over to enjoy eating.
