Highway Bridge Project To Begin This Weekend In Waterbury, Middlebury
Motorists can expect to encounter work zones and lane closures for several weeks.
A bridge improvement project starts this weekend and continues through early October.
The work will be on bridges on I-84 and Route 8 in Middlebury and Waterbury, starting on Sunday, June 28, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The project, which includes bridge joint work, is expected to be finished on Oct. 9.

The bridges include:
• I84 West over Rt 188 (Bridge 01172)

• I84 East over Rt 188 (Bridge 01171)
• I84 West over Rt 63 (Bridge 01174)
• I84 East over Rt 63 (Bridge 01173)
• Rt. 8 North near Exit 27 (Bridge 03179)
• Rt. 8 South near Exit 27 (Bridge 03178)
Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures on both highways between 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, for the duration of the project.
Traffic control signage will be in place, and state police will be on scene to help guide motorists through work zones. Motorists are advised to slow down while driving through the area.
The weather could change the expected schedule for the project, according to the DOT.
