History Bites @ Flanders Nature Center

"Discoveries In The Attic" at Flanders Nature Center on April 14 @ noon

Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust curator, Marc Chabot will be presenting a “History Bites” lecture at Flanders on Thursday, April 14 at Noon. “

History Bites” is a free lunchtime lecture series sponsored in part by the Connecticut Community Foundation designed to bring topics of local history to the attention of the regional community. The focus of the 2016 series of History Bites is “Behind the Scenes” which will provide insight into some hidden stories and lesser known facts pertaining to each of the featured organizations and/or their collections.

Marc will discuss the legacy of Flanders’ founder, accomplished artist Natalie Van Vleck, and the discovery only after her death of some of her paintings and drawings that were hidden from public view in the attic of the historic Van Vleck house. What prompted Natalie to hide these masterpieces? Marc Chabot will take participants on a visual tour including a viewing of some of the original paintings.
