The DiMatteo Group in Shelton recently expanded and acquired the tax and financial firm previously owned by Mort Lichtman in Stratford. Lichtman retired and has moved to Florida after 52 years in business. Lichtman noted, “I wanted to choose a firm that I knew would treat my clients with professionalism, warmth and understanding. I am confident the DiMatteo Group will continue to provide my clients with the highest level of service.” John DiMatteo, President of DiMatteo Group, added, “We are honored to have acquired Mort Lichtman’s business and have retained his valued employees. We will continue to operate his Stratford location at 1575 Huntington Road through the end of April to conveniently service our new tax and financial clients. We will then consolidate our staff into the Shelton location on Bridgeport Avenue.” Founded over 57 years ago, DiMatteo Group is a family-owned and operated business specializing in insurance, employee benefits, income tax and financial services.As a result of this merger, the firm now employs 34 professionals. In addition, DiMatteo Group is active in giving back to the community. Eleven years ago the DiMatteo Family Charitable Foundation was established as well as their annual golf tournament. The Foundation was started as a tribute to their late father who was battling cancer at the time. Since then, their Foundation has contributed over $330,000 for various well-known local and national charities that fund research, education and finding a cure for diseases. “Mort Lichtman’s firm closely aligns with our strategy for growth and our long-term goals,” added DiMatteo. “We are pleased to announce that John A. Esposito of Middlebury, a third-generation family member, will be working in our new Stratford office along with our other new employees.” He is the son of John and Rosemarie Esposito of Shelton. Rosemarie is the agency’s Treasurer, an Enrolled Agent and manages DiMatteo Group – Tax & Accounting Services LLC. John A. Esposito has joined the DiMatteo Group as a Paraplanner and Tax Professional. He studied finance at Western New England University and has worked in the financial services industry in New York City, Boston, and Norwalk. John is the grandson of Tony and Adeline DiMatteo, founders of the DiMatteo Group in 1959. In addition, Diane Lemanski of Shelton has been hired by the DiMatteo Group as a Financial Assistant. She will be working in the Financial Services and Tax Services Department. For over 30 years, she has held various positions in accounting, tax and client services for Registered Representative and Enrolled Agent companies, Certified Public Accounting firms and New York Life Insurance Company. Diane has a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Queens College, The City University of New York. The other new staff includes Sandie Kwet of Lakeland, Florida, who will be working as a Tax Preparer.
