Main Street Waterbury Launches "Fill-A-Bag" For Food Pantries Drive

Main Street Waterbury (MSW) is hosting its’ fourth annual “Fill-A-Bag” Food Drive to help stock the downtown area food pantries. To facilitate collection, Main Street Waterbury will distribute small shopping bags to downtown businesses and office personnel asking them to fill these with much-needed food items according to a wish list from the various food pantries.

In past years, over 120 bags of food were distributed equally among the three downtown Waterbury food pantries, including Waterbury Baptist Ministries, Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries, and The Salvation Army. Main Street Waterbury hopes to acquire equivalent and better numbers for 2014.

Needed items include: Pasta and sauce which are popular for holiday meals as well as tuna; canned meals, e.g. stews, chili, hearty soups; peanut butter; boxed cereal; macaroni and cheese; rice; juice boxes; mixed fruit cups; applesauce snack cups; and powdered milk. Other non-perishable food items are welcome.

Between December 2nd and 5th, MSW staff will distribute empty bags and will pick up filled bags in the two weeks following. MSW volunteers will then deliver food items to the food pantries in time for the holidays and beyond.
