UPDATE: Fire Department Hosting Training with Former FDNY Battalion Chief
The training is open to fire officers and firefighters.

The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a training seminar with former Battalion Chief John J. Salka, Jr., of the Official Fire Department City of New York.
The seminar will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the and is open to fire officers and firefighters.

Lt. James Redway said the public may attend but reiterated that the training is specific to fire officers and firefighters.
Salka was a battalion chief with FDNY and has more than 31 years experience in the fire service. He is a contributing editor for Firehouse Magazine and has also written for Fire Engineering, WNYF, Size-Up and the Wharton Leadership Digest. His book, "First In Last Out, Leadership Lessons From The New York Fire Department," was published in 2004 and is the basis for his new Leadership lecture series.

According to Salka's website, he was decorated for bravery several times over his 20-plus years of service in the FDNY and served as part of the Incident Command Team at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and the weeks and months that followed.
The March seminar will cover fire ground responsibility and five alarm leadership.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The presentation will start at 9 a.m. Cost to attend is $45 per person and includes lunch. Pre-registration is encouraged. The seminar is a fundraising event for the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department.
