Middlebury Police Blotter: Gunshots and Several Animal Calls
It was an animalistic week for the Middlebury Police Department.

Gunshots
On July 16 around 10 p.m. police received a report from a resident of "a loud crash and then gunshots followed." The event reportedly occurred on theNaugatuck side of Yale Avenue. Police said a second caller then reported hearing four gunshots, "possibly between the house and Woodside Heights."
Lights On, No One Home

A resident on Wooster Road reported that they believed someone had been entering their house using a hidden key. According to police, the resident added they had had a landscaper check the house, who found the television on inside with no one home. The key has since been given to the keyholder. As of the July 22 call, police have been requested to conduct extra patrols in the area.
Loose Cows

On July 22, Middlebury police received a report of two loose cows by a mailbox on South Street. The cows were determined to be from Larkin Farm and the owners were able to retrieve the cows and bring them back to the farm, according to police.
Coyote Pups
A resident on Whittemore Road called police on July 21 to express concern over coyote pups "hanging around homes on the property."
Loose Bat
Police received a call on July 21 from an Abbott Farm Road resident about a bat flying around inside of the house.
Loud Kennel
On July 20, police received a call from a resident on Watertown Road. The resident allegedly claimed that there was a kennel next to his property and that "constant barking" was emanating from it, particularly between 9 and 10 p.m. in the evening. The resident was advised to speak to the town's dog warden the following day.
Sick Skunk
On Three Mile Hill, police received a report of a sick skunk at a the front door of a residence on July 20 around 11:30 a.m.
Smashed Window Revenge?
On July 18, police received a call about broken windows and slashed tires on a car on Southford Road. The caller reportedly said his girlfriend had gone to the gym and returned to find the vehicle in disrepair, and that an employee the caller had fired a few weeks previously could possibly be at fault, police said. Police said the resident asked for extra patrols in the area in the future.
Ill Raccoon
A resident reported an ill raccoon roaming in a lot near their Benson Road home on July 18 around 10:30 a.m. When approached, the animal reportedly fled into the woods.
Odd Basketball
According to police, residents on Tyler Crossing had a disagreement that ended with one bouncing a basketball off the other's face. Police fielded the call at 8:45 p.m. on July 16.
Bones
Police received a report on July 15 of a person finding bones on Mosquito Island at Long Meadow Pond. They said ultimately the remains were from a deer.
