Middlebury Police Blotter: Gunshots, Snakes and Coyote Pups
Middlebury Police deal with a wide range of incidents over the last few weeks.

Gun Shots
On July 16 at 10 p.m. police received a report from a resident that heard a loud crash gunshots following it at her residence on Yale Avenue. In a second call, the resident reported hearing four gunshots, possibly between the residence and Woodside Heights in the woods.

On July 15 a resident on Middlebury Road reported a two to three-foot-long solid brown snake lying by the front entry door of the building. The resident said the snake kept moving back into the building through concrete steps. Police advised the resident to contact the building owner and an exterminator.
Suspect Flees on Foot

Wolcott Police pursued a vehicle into Middlebury near Colonial Avenue on July 11, chasing a suspect that had reportedly been breaking into other vehicles in the area. The operator reportedly fled on foot after abandoning the vehicle and remains at large.Â
Two Vehicle Break-Ins
Police reported two vehicles broken into on July 10 on Porter Avenue. The case remains under investigation.
Stop & Shop Purse Snatch
On July 9, police received a report over the 911 hotline of a purse snatching at the Stop & Shop on Rubber Avenue. The suspect, a male, jumped into a red pickup with NY license plates and fled out of the parking lot toward Route 8. According to police, the vehicle was described as a four-door Dodge Dakota operated by a black male with a white passenger. The case remains open.
Sleep Dad Scares Child
A nine-year-old boy notified his aunt that he could not awaken his dad while both were parked in a car on July 8, "possibly in a park with a lot of trees around." Police pinged the cell phone used to place the call and searched a number of areas in town to no avail. Later in the evening, the father showed up to a relative's home in Naugatuck.
Coyote Pups
A resident called police on July 8 to report having four coyote pups hanging around their driveway on South Street. The complainant was advised to leave them alone and contact the DEP.
